Scandinavian affiliate network Affiliator announced today that it would shut down all operations.

Affiliator, which launched in 2006, was part of Getupdated, a subdivision of web services provider Online Group. The network boasted 165 employees across the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and the US.

In an email newsletter, the Stockholm-headquartered Affiliator stated that a lack of profitability had led to its decision to close.

The message stated: “Sadly we do not see an opportunity to run Affiliator as a profitable product that meets the expectation set by the organisation. During fall and winter we have tried to bring the product to a more profitable level but unfortunately we did not succeed.

“We would also like to take the opportunity and thank you for collaboration through all these years and wish you good luck regardless on how you decide to proceed after this.”

User payout

All affiliate programmes in the network will be shut down by February 13 2015, if Affiliator clients have not chosen to shut down their programmes themselves.

Getupdated will also payout any outstanding commission, according to Affiliator’s Terms of Agreement, by the time every affiliate program has been closed.

Affiliator worked with a variety of companies during its lifespan, offering various services to ensure advertisers’ target pages and advertisements converted successfully.

Getupdated will continue to operate as an ad services provider, comprising solutions for SEO, Google Adwords, web development, social media and web analytics.
