Global performance marketing business Rakuten LinkShare has revealed strong results for the recent peak holiday season.

From November 1 to December 31 2013, which includes the infamous Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping days, the network said sales on mobile devices, which include smartphones and tablets, increased 68% year-over-year in the US and 53% year-over-year in the UK.

There was also a 30% increase in same store sales in the US year-over-year and a 31% increase in same store sales in the UK.

The company said sales made on desktops accounted for 24% of same-store sales in the US, and 10% of sales in the UK.  It also noted that tablets accounted for 70% of mobile sales in the US and 81% of mobile sales in the UK.

CEO at Rakuten LinkShare, Yaz Iida, said the company is now poised for continued growth in the coming year.

“We enter 2014 with even higher goals to ensure we’re exceeding the expectations set by our growing network of advertisers and publishers.”

One of Rakuten LinkShare’s clients, French-founded designer brand Lacoste, said it also had a record-breaking holiday shopping season – bit did not reveal any figures.

Director of e-commerce at Lacoste, Cassie Colletti, said: “During the holidays, affiliates help us drive online traffic and sales for consumers.

“With the continued growth of mobile commerce, we needed the assurance that transactions on every device would be securely and accurately attributed.”
