September is said to be the new January, presenting new opportunities and the ideal time to set Q4 goals. There have been a number of changes in the digital marketing industry throughout September, including newly created roles, expansion into markets and plenty of promotions.

First up, Jonathon Brown joined Compare the Market as chief executive officer, bringing with him a wealth of experience in leading digital businesses. “I know he will do a fantastic job in leading the Compare the Market team as it delivers the ambitious strategy we’ve set. His strong e-commerce and customer focus make him a perfect fit for the division and for BGL more widely,” commented Matthew Donaldson, chief executive officer of BGL Group.

Criteo, the advertising platform for the open Internet, appointed Ryan Damon as general counsel. In his new role, Damon will oversee the legal, data privacy and government relations functions as part of Criteo’s continued commitment to global growth and innovation.

Following their growth in Europe, SmarterClick has opened a new office in Madrid, with Miguel Arespacochaga – previously managing director at Affilinet ES – taking the lead as country manager for Spain, Italy and Portugal. Over in the UK, the company's continued high-speed growth has created two new roles, with James Boden (previously client services Director for VoucherCodes) joining the team as global commercial director and David Ayre stepping up to global operations director.

Talking of continued expansion, Selligent has recruited Steven Tipping as its VP of sales, UK and Benelux. As part of his job, Tipping will be responsible for the go-to-market strategy for the B2B marketing automation platform.

Creative tech startup Ad-Lib Digital has also seen phenomenal growth, having made three strategic hires. Harry Melsom joins as product manager, while Janne Smith and Lasma Ilzina have both been appointed as client strategy leads.

It’s good news for independent advertising technology platform Adform, which announced the expansion in three new regions and multiple senior leadership updates. As a result, there have been three new additions to the team. Arriving from King is Lucia Mastromauro as VP of global agencies, who will lead Adform’s global agency business. Joining the company’s Dusseldorf base as VP of publisher and marketplace is Jesh Sukhwani, while the final addition is Filippo Gramigna, taking on the role of VP of business development.

Likewise, two new members join provider of first-party data Tibrio’s leadership team. Elizabeth Christensen will serve as the company’s new chief operating officer in addition to Sabiha Tudesco being promoted to chief revenue officer. They will both execute on the company’s growth strategy, focusing on new customer acquisition, operational excellence and business development.

Over at Starcom, Louise Peacocke has become managing partner, where she will deliver best-in-class products for the agency, lead senior relationships with top-tier clients and drive overall business growth for clients.

Meanwhile, the industry’s first extensible programmatic buying platform, Beeswax has hired Cadi Jones as commercial director in its London office to support expanded demand for its services across Europe. Jones will lead a growing commercial team as it continues to land and service major deals with enterprise brands looking for sophisticated programmatic solutions.

In addition to Amobee recently acquiring Videology, a leading software provider for advanced TV and video advertising, the company also made two executive appointments: technology innovator Scott Ferber is now chief innovation officer at Amobee and Domenic Venuto is the chief operating officer, bringing with him a 360-degree global perspective.

In other news, call intelligence platform ResponseTap welcomed Mark Edgeworth as its chief revenue officer. A major part of his role will be to continue the success of the ResponseTap platform as well as exploiting growth opportunities within Europe and the US.

In the programmatic video space, Tal Mor joins Tremor Video DSP as chief technology officer. Mor has over 20 years of experience in business and technology, including as CTO at sister company Taptica.

ADARA, the data solution for travel brands, has hired former Amnet Global COO and Mediacom global client consulting partner, Curtis Nishijma to the newly created role of managing director, EMEA. Nishijima will be responsible for setting the vision, market development and operational requirements across ADARA EMEA. The role will give ADARA’s EMEA offices greater autonomy to set their own strategic direction to drive accelerated growth in this rapidly transforming region.

Fernando Saiz moves over to Tappx as chief marketing officer. Saiz will take responsibility for the company’s integrated marketing strategy and global marketing team.

Over to the shaker, Richard Foran, executive chairman of the Joint Industry Committee for Web Standards (JICWEBS), who announced his intention to step down at the end of the year. He will stay involved in the media industry through advisory and non-executive roles
