Our ‘Profile: A Day in the Life of’ feature takes a look at some of the global professionals working across performance marketing. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the flourishing industry. This week we head to South East England to speak to Max Pepe, head of Clickwork7.

Name:

Max Pepe

Job title and company:

Head of Clickwork7.

In one sentence, how would you describe what the company does?

Global multi-channel performance marketing; focused on high quality lead generation, customer acquisition, and mobile app promotion.

What are the company’s unique selling points?

Our heritage, as one of the UKs biggest publishers, enables us to use our expertise to facilitate the success and growth of our clients and publishers. We are proud to have built our own proprietary technology that allows us to offer innovative monetisation solutions. Most importantly of all, our passionate and knowledgeable team genuinely care, and are able to offer complete, holistic, full service performance marketing expertise, under one roof.

Within the last six months/year, what stands out as the company’s major milestones?

The last year has been monumental for the company. Our team has grown from 25 to almost 50 people within the last twelve months. Our publisher base and client list has grown at an equally impressive rate.

In terms of specifics, we have built and launched the world’s first ever ESP (email service provider) with integrated CPL/CPA offers – which is now in live BETA mode. The platform enables our global network of email publishers to browse through hundreds of high converting offers, select the one(s) they want, segment data, and broadcast to their database within a few easy clicks, all from within one simple interface. This makes the entire monetisation process virtually effortless, saving the busy publisher precious time, and therefore money.  Our account management team work with every publisher to ensure maximum eCPM yield for their data.  Furthermore, the ESP is completely free to Clickwork7 publishers – so it’s easy to see why we’re so proud to share this with email publishers and data owners, helping to monetise their valuable inventory.

Duration in current role:

2 years 5 months

Where are you based?

Our main office is based in Maidstone, Kent. Although many of the team (including myself) spend a significant proportion of the week in London.

Previous performance marketing-related companies you have worked at:

Prior to the launch of Clickwork7, I worked for our sister company Submission Technology as head of network. Before that I was sales & marketing manager for a company in the music industry, and developed a passion for all performance marketing channels within this role.

What are your main job responsibilities?

I manage the day to day running of Clickwork7, whilst exploring new business opportunities and driving strategic direction.  I work closely with our wonderfully creative, hyper analytical and super-motivated team to ensure we make every single day count.

Take us through what you get up to on a typical working Monday:

First things first. Make. Strong. Coffee.

I will always begin by drilling in to the weekend’s stats. Assessing the performance of every campaign, developing growth and optimisation opportunities, and addressing anything that needs attention.

I will then sit down with the team to plan the week ahead, collectively deciding on the short term goals and achievements we will conquer before the week is up.

No matter how much you love your job, Monday mornings can be tough for us all. To kick the week off with a bang and rid ourselves of any Monday-blues, we will often sit down and watch a short inspirational video suggested by a member of the team. This could be anything from an amazingly motivational TEDtalk, a clever advert, or an inspirational account of human achievement. Sounds silly, but it really helps to get us pumped for the week and bring the team together.

What top three websites can you be found browsing during your lunch hour?

With the exception of PerformanceIN of course, some of my favourites are:

  • dotrising.com
  • mobilemarketingmagazine.com
  • entrepreneur.com

What are your top three tips for someone looking to get their hands on a job like yours?

  1. Get involved and make things happen. Whether you’re a fresh faced junior with no experience or a seasoned digital veteran, our industry is in a constant state of rapid evolution – jump in, makes things happen, create real value (no matter how big or small) and you’re on the right path to becoming a linchpin.
  2. Be perpetually curious about the digital marketing space; read widely, listen carefully, and talk to industry professionals face to face.
  3. Work hard and be nice to people.

Career-wise, where do you see yourself in three years’ time?

Continuing to drive Clickwork7 forwards with passion and ambition – focused on becoming global performance marketing leaders; creating an inspirational culture for our people, and a ubiquitous industry wide brand renowned for delivering exceptional results.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I play in a rock band and have recorded two BBC Live Lounge sessions at the famous Maida Vale studios.
