Microfinance institutions on five continents work with Kiva on offering loans to people who wouldn’t normally have access to traditional banking systems. The entire loan, all 100% of it, is sent to these microfinance institutions who then administer the loans to individuals.

The majority of Kiva’s funding comes from lenders making optional donations. It also raises funds through grants, corporate sponsors and foundations. The charity doesn’t take one dollar from the actual loans.
