Windows Phone 8 is now supported by VoucherCodes.co.uk. The money-saving affiliate is one of the first to invest in Microsoft’s latest smartphone operating system, possibly targeting it as a growth area for mobile.

Rival, Vouchercloud’s own site indicates it only supports the older version, Windows Phone 7, whereas MyVoucherCodes appears to be focusing on iOS, Android and BlackBerry OS when it comes to mobile app development.

VoucherCodes recently undertook research into consumer shopping habits. It found over a third of smartphone users (37%) would be more inclined to shop in-store if they had access to vouchers, deals and discounts through their phones.

Millions of Downloads

The study likely prompted VoucherCodes to expand its mobile platform support. The publisher states its app has been downloaded by 2.2 million consumers since the launch of the original iOS version in September 2011.

Daniel Bower, director of product at VoucherCodes.co.uk, commented on how his company was hoping to coerce consumers into stores by fuelling engagement between them and merchants.

“As smartphone adoption continues unabated, apps like ours help retailers to unlock the latent opportunities offered by mobile and engage with customers in a more meaningful way than ever before,” he said.
