Shortlist Revealed - Performance Marketing Awards


The eagerly anticipated shortlist for this year’s glittering Performance Marketing Awards in London has today been unveiled.

Key players from this booming and innovative industry can now set their sights on exactly which of the 31 uniquely created categories they have been nominated in.

With five extra awards this year and categories such as the Hotshot Rising Star, Most Incremental Performance Marketing Campaign, Network Innovation and Best use of Mobile, it is clear from the shortlist there is a huge amount of talent across the board.

Performance Marketing Awards judge and content director at A4u, Chris Johnson, said: “The sheer increase in entries this year reflects how companies have been harnessing performance marketing's 'commercially viable' tagline over the past 14 months in order to lower cost per sale and lift campaign ROI.

“During 2012 we saw many industry stakeholders focus on studying, enhancing and rewarding the customer journey online, offline, in-store and through innovative targeting - all of which are far more prominent within the entries compared to last year, and all of which are being measured on performance.”

Tough job for Expert Judges

The shortlist was created by a panel of 24 expert judges - from companies in the know, such as vice chairman of the Oglivy Group Rory Sutherland; chairman of Decision Technologies Ltd, Tobin Ireland; founder of Delightful Communications, Mel Carson; chief strategy officer of SOMO; Ross Sleight and commercial director (EMEA) at Marin Software, Jon Myers.

Other judges hail from the likes of SEOgadget, Expedia, A4u, LOVEFiLM, BT - and more.

Charged with scrutinising and pouring over a vast amount of insightful and interesting entry submissions, the panel really narrowed the findings down by looking at aspects such as innovation and uniqueness, clear campaign objectives, feasibility, smart execution and success and return on investment.

More than 100 retail brands have secured a prestigious place on the shortlist and on May 7, agencies, publishers, new entrants, affiliate programmes, campaigns, advertisers, and more will go head-to-head for the varying coveted awards.

It is clear from the list that several companies, such as Affiliate Window, Tradedoubler, Net Media Planet, 7thingsmedia, vouchercloud, Commission Junction, affilinet and TopCashback, have been working hard across many areas of the performance marketing industry, allowing them to gain multiple spots on the shortlist in a number of categories.

With the huge gust of mobile innovations and tools sweeping across the sector, a beady eye is sure to be on the winner for the Best use of Mobile Award. From Tradedoubler’s mobile partnership with The Body Shop and, to’s mobile efforts and Net Media Planet’s exploits with Papa John’s Pizza – this category is one to watch.

Mobile innovations also pop up under the Network Innovation Award, Best use of Data Award and the Best New Entrant Award.

Full Recognition Deserved

No doubt the final six who have made it onto the Hotshot Rising Star Award will also be waiting with bated breath for this highly sought-after award – as was last year’s winner from, Pete Newman.

The dazzling awards ceremony, in association with Commission Junction, will return to the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, for its seventh year and provides the optimum opportunity to celebrate the pioneering performance marketing industry and mingle with industry figures.
