A4u Programme of the Week: M&S Energy

Name: M&S; Energy

Contact: Jennifer Rogerson

Can you give us a brief overview regarding the M&S; Energy affiliate programme?

Marks and Spencer have partnered with SSE to bring you M&S; Energy – a great value gas and electricity package that makes energy simple and rewarding. SSE generates more renewable energy than any other energy company in the UK** and so is a perfect match for M&S;’ Plan A commitment to helping the environment, making it easier for customers to help too. Initially, M&S; Energy was launched as part of the SSE affiliate programme in April 2011, but the product has proven so popular that we decided to launch it as a programme in its own right. The affiliate programme is managed by Equator via Affiliate Window.

What are the main promotional aspects for M&S; Energy that Affiliates can use in their promotion of the programme?

The energy market can be daunting, with so many suppliers and tariffs to choose from. M&S; Energy offers two simple products: One of these lets you fix your bills until 2014 giving customers even more peace of mind and with our Standard Energy option we guarantee that there won’t be a price increase until at least October 2012.

Customers can rest assured that they’ll benefit from outstanding customer service, with 96% of existing customers happy to recommend M&S; Energy to friends and family.^ In addition, earn up to £70 M&S; vouchers to spend in store, by switching to us and staying with us, choosing paperless billing and reducing your bills by saving energy where you can.

How flexible is your commission structure? Can affiliates discuss different rates with you?

Our commission structure is extremely flexible - we pay £23.20 for single fuel (gas or electricity) applications and £46.40 for dual fuel but we regularly take advantage of opportunities for increased exposure by offering a commission increase. We try to think outside the box too – we’ve been known to offer vouchers for the customer alongside affiliate commission, and we’re always keen to hear affiliates’ ideas about the incentives that work well for their demographic.

With such a wide range of affiliates available for you to utilise - which affiliate demographics are you looking for to join M&S; Energy?

We’ve experienced great success so far with loyalty affiliates, but with so much to say about the product, we’re keen to recruit more content affiliates and help them to create engaging content about M&S; Energy.

Anything else our readers should know?

Until 31st March 2012, M&S; Energy customers can benefit from free cavity wall and loft insulation, worth up to £610!^^ This is part of our ongoing commitment to cutting carbon emissions and reducing energy use, and it’ll also help our customers to achieve their target of reducing their energy bills by 10% a year for which they’ll be rewarded with M&S; vouchers.

**The aggregate electricity consumed by M&S; Energy customers is matched by electricity that has the Renewable Electricity Guarantee of Origin (REGO). SSE Energy Supply Ltd is part of the Scottish and Southern Energy Group, of which SSE Generation Ltd is also a member. SSE Generation Ltd generates more renewable electricity than any other energy company in the UK. Based on installed capacity as at 31.5.10 (Chapter 5).

^Figures taken from the results of SSE’s M&S; Energy day 270 contact strategy questionnaire from March - September 2010 and are based on the answers of 11,202 customers who took part in the survey.

††£610 figure is based on a 3 bed semi-detached with no existing insulation. Source; Energy Saving Trust. £610 is the maximum value of insulation that may be installed without charge. If you are not the homeowner, you must seek the owner’s written permission before arranging installation. Not all properties will be suitable for insulation. You will not be eligible for free insulation if you already have pre-existing cavity wall insulation or loft insulation that is more than 60mm thick, or if we are unable to insulate at least two thirds of the total loft space or wall cavities. Funding is not available for under tile insulation or where there is already more than 150mm/6 inches of existing loft insulation. If you have a large or non-standard property, or if we need to use specialist systems or equipment to carry out the work, then there will be a charge, but you will be told about this at the time of the free no obligation suitability assessment (you will not be able to benefit from the free insulation offer unless you agree to the additional work and costs). Offer applies to M&S; Energy customers only between 16 January 2012 and 14 April 2012. Offer can be withdrawn at any time due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control. Currently only available for properties in mainland Great Britain and the Isle of Wight.
