Tell us a little bit more about where you work?
"Octopus.com is a leading international hotel booking engine. We’re part of the Kuoni Group, a $6bn global travel company with over 10,000 employees. We have about 90,000 hotels and we pride ourselves on our user experience -there are no additional fees, the navigation is clear, and we have a best price guarantee. Our slogan is hotel bookings made easy, and it really is."
What are the main benefits of working with Octopus.com?
"User experience is everything for us, and that’s doubly true for our affiliates. We’ve been working hard on reworking the site. It’s now clean, streamlined and converting really well. Our satisfaction rates are in the high 90s, so working with us can prove very profitable indeed."
"But also hopefully fun. We work cooperatively with our partners to make sure we can respond more effectively to their needs. It’s better that way, it’s more enjoyable and everyone can make more money."
Do you operate in other markets?
"Indeed, Octopus.com is an international brand. We operate the affiliate program in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden and the USA. As part of a global consortium, we’re always looking at opportunities as they arise, so ask me again in six months time and the answer might be very different."
What is the biggest difference in the new Octopus.com program than what you had offered affiliates previously?
"We now offer a far wider set of tools to help our affiliates convert their traffic in a way that’s right for them. As well as the standard resources (banners and text links ), we’ve now got a data feed, search widgets, smart widgets, carousel banners and a live API connection. We’re always looking at providing other tools to support our affiliates, so there’s more development to come. A wordpress plug in for example, will be coming out shortly.
"We’ve also streamlined the networks we work with. Whereas once we’d have a range spread across Europe, we now work with Webgains exclusively with a fully managed global program."
What are the main areas you will be focusing on this year?
"Improving the quality of our relationships is key for us. It makes life easier on a human level, but also allows both parties to respond flexibly to one another and deliver real growth. Increasing the number of tools we can offer our partners and relentlessly improving the site conversion are all things we’ve done to improve our affiliate experiance. We’d like to build on this, remaining responsive and innovative to scale up our affiliate marketing.
"Research shows that the affiliate channel plays a key role in the marketing mix; no one knows this better than us. 2012 is going to see big things from Octopus.com in the affiliate space. It’s really quite exciting."
