Affilinet Announces Third MD in Three Months with Appointment of Helen Southgate

Helen Southgate has been confirmed as the new UK managing director at affilinet. She joins the European performance marketing network from BSkyB, where she was online marketing controller - strategy and planning.

Southgate will be starting in May 2013 after a three and a half year stint at BSkyB. Affilinet states that her main focus will be on business in the UK, but she will also work alongside other country managers to grow the network at a European level.

The company’s chief executive officer, Dorothea Von Wichert-Nick, was complimentary of her new employee. “She has a real passion for the industry and is renowned for pushing boundaries,” she said. “We believe that clients will really benefit from her drive, vision and unique understanding of how the industry is developing.”

Period of Change

Officially, Southgate will be taking over from Nick Stebbings who joined affilinet in January. Stebbings was named UK MD when his predecessor, Gary Bicker, stepped down after nearly three years at the company.

A4u now understands that Stebbings wasn’t ever actually UK MD at affilinet, which appears to be confirmed by his Linkedin profile. Instead CEO, Von Wichert-Nick, has been filling in as UK MD during this period.

In an attempt to find out what exactly happened to Stebbings, we contacted affilinet. It provided us with a statement confirming there had been an issue with his past employer, which prevented him from being involved with affilinet.

Work Dispute

"Due to an unexpected and escalating work dispute with his former employer we had to part with Nick Stebbings. Dorothea Von Wichert-Nick, our CEO, temporarily acted as UK MD whilst a replacement was found."

Southgate will have likely been aware of the challenge before agreeing to take up her new role and having been IAB Affiliate Marketing Council chair in the past, she’ll be well versed in performance marketing’s red tape.

The new UK MD was drawn to affilinet’s use of performance marketing in multi-channel activities. “Affilinet has already started to capitalise on this [multi-channel] and with its team, experience and flair [it] is very much starting to lead the industry from the front,” she said.
