Q&A: LOVEFiLM Reveals A Big Niche For Video-Streaming Affiliates

What devices is LOVEFiLM most viewed on?

I am afraid I cannot give you exact information, but we are happy with the mix of devices people are using. People know we are on a lot of devices, but its more than you think. LOVEFiLM Instant is available on over 280 Internet-enabled devices including PCs, PlayStation 3, iPad, Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Wii U, plus a growing number of Blu-Ray players and Internet-connected TVs including Sony, Samsung and LG.

What performance avenues are publishers not utilising that they should be when it comes to LOVEFiLM?

JN: Comparison sites used to be very strong in the DVD rental-focused days, with a lot of sites talking about us versus, Blockbuster, EasyDVD, Outnow etc. I have not seen much of the same in the streaming market, which is just going to get bigger. There are a few affiliates doing it, but not to the same scale and being the first big, trusted comparison site for streaming content could establish a brand in the long term. I’ve seen some guys making a go at it but of the bigger comparison brands seem to have missed out so far.

How successful has your relationship with Coull been?

JN: We are interested in all video advertising and pre-rolls, it’s an obvious area for us to explore. While testing Coull in the affiliate channel, we also have worked with others such as YouTube and 4oD as an extension of our TV advertising campaigns. We have made improvements with every campaign but it is part of a wider strategy.

What are you looking forward to most about judging the Performance Marketing Awards?

JN: As someone who has attended the awards many times, and spoken to judges about the experience in the past, I am really looking forward to being involved and seeing the calibre of the entries. I hope to learn more about what has made others successful over the past twelve months and I'm looking forward to the task at hand. I am sure there will be some great entries to read.
