Rakuten Linkshare UK has announced a prosperous second quarter of the year thanks to a 65% year-on-year increase in same-store sales. The affiliate network’s percentage is considerably larger than the Office for National Statistics’ overall industry increase of 1.6% in UK retail sales for the quarter.
Across the Atlantic, the USA’s same-store sales also outpaced overall e-commerce growth. Data and analytics company, comScore, noted that overall e-commerce in the country rose 15% in the second quarter of 2012. Once again Rakuten Linkshare bettered the national benchmark by revealing its same-store sales were up 29% year-on-year for the same quarter.
New brands and publishers on the up
The affiliate network is certain much of its flourishing sales are down to significant global growth in newly signed or launched brands and new publishers. More than 100 brands were signed in the second quarter along with thousands of new publishers in markets such as the UK, USA, Canada and Japan.
Chief Executive Officer at Rakuten Linkshare, Yaz Lida, spoke of his network’s focus on global brands. “Online retailers are now finding new customers and driving sales around the world,” he said. “As consumer trends and tastes become more global, part of our mission will be to help advertisers and publishers create new partnerships in new markets as they increase their global e-commerce capabilities.”
