Quidco & vouchercloud Named In Top 500 Apps List

In their annual release, the Sunday Times Top 500 Apps list revealed some research to coincide with the report, which details smartphone usage habits.

This list was compiled by a number of journalists at the paper which incldued mobile applications from big brands including Amazon and eBay, through to niche apps including 'Jamies 20 minute meals',the ever popular board game Monopoly and Shopping Comparison site PriceRunner.co.uk

Some Research Highlights:

  • Almost 80% of apps downloaded are free.
  • Half of the UK population now own a smartphone (around 30 million)
  • On average, a smartphone user keeps around 38 apps on their device
  • Over half download an app at least once a week
  • The last week of 2011 saw 81 million app downloads in the UK alone.

Affiliates Make The List.

There were two additions for publishers who rely heavily on affiliate marketing, with cashback store Quidco and mobile / voucher publisher vouchercloud were both listed within the apps for shopping.

Andy Andreou, Sales Director at Quidco, said of their listing:

"We are really proud that our app made The Sunday Times top 500 apps list. When we came up with the idea to incentivise members to walk into a store we knew we were creating something special. We can now combine incentivised checkins with in-store cashback so we are not only driving footfall but also bricks and mortar sales for our advertisers.

"The good news is that this is driving up not cannibalising online sales because of the exposure those advertisers are getting online and via the app. Our research also shows that multi channel customers spend on average more online and in-store than just single channel customers."

Greg Le Tocq, Managing Director at vouchercloud, was equally pleased:

"We're obviously delighted to feature in the Sunday Times Top 500 Best Apps on the Planet list. It pays testament to the fact we're tuned in to what our customers want - fresh, up to date discounts delivered to their phone screens and the very latest voucher codes for online shopping.

"Consumers in the UK have wholeheartedly embraced a discount culture and are constantly on the lookout for the very best deals - vouchercloud delivers these savings."
