Why did you feel the need to launch a site dedicated to the Affiliate Marketing Council (AMC) ?
Up until now the IAB has featured news about affiliate marketing on their site but I wanted to create something that was open to the whole affiliate industry as well as up to date with all the latest from the Council. I know people are frustrated by how the Council has been centred on London and is not readily accessible to plenty of people who would like to contribute. Hopefully this opens up the opportunity for people to raise issues they’d like share at the Council meetings as well as provide ongoing feedback.
In time I’d love to upload podcasts and video content from the meetings to dispel the myth that the Council is some sort of old boys’ club.
What are you planning to feature onsite?
Every couple of months the agenda for the meetings will be featured and then the minutes will also be posted.
Beyond that though I’d love the site to be used by all marketers who are looking for best practice advice and guidance. Therefore it would be a perfect place for affiliates, agencies and merchants to showcase their work.
There are a handful of case studies on the main IAB site that I’ll transfer over in the next few weeks and I’d love people to contribute content. We’ll also be featuring the cross-network codes of conduct that deal with voucher codes, downloadable software and behavioural retargeting.
How do you see the site evolving over the next year?
There are dozens of advertisers out there who are crying out for best practice guidance and the IAB AMC is working hard to provide as much as possible. Because we’re a consultative body these things take time but I’d love the site to be one of the first people turn when they’re looking for solutions. In time when the content is bulked up this will hopefully happen. It will be a fantastic place for affiliates and merchants to talk about what they do best in the industry. We’ll also be supporting as many industry events as possible including the forthcoming a4uexpo and I’d like to get some of the content up on site in due course.
Ultimately the site will only be as good as the content and it needs to come from a diverse range of contributors so please get in touch if you’d like to submit case studies, articles, video content or anything else.
