As well as the pop ups, it drives me mad when I get Arndale sales staff on the phone trying to sell me advertising. The introduction mentions ITV.com a lot and then gets round to mention the horrible pop under that is Arndale.

Who is behind this guys and how on earth did ITV / Homebase get themselves kidded into promoting these people?
Have to no idea of the importance of their own branding to have has it spoiled by Arndale popping up.

I have on my site Webtrends Live and today 23% of my referring urls have been from www.thearndale.com/search/search.aspx
I have been promoting mobile phones on pay per click but have only used one seach word that is 'mobile phones'. Their website has 3 banners from Trade Doubler that is Dixons, Homebase and The Link. I have found the website on my desktop several times today, not knowing quite where it was coming from.
Can anyone shred any light into what is happening!

With reference to the above post, I have seen the light! the search box is an integrated search tool from Mirago.
When someone types searchwords connected to Homebase, Dixons or The Link it generates the popunder. The searcher doesn't find what they want on Homebase, Dixons or the Link, they exit it to land on the the popunder, see a search box, type as in my case 'mobile phone' and it pulls the mirago searches. They are not interested in selling anything from the banners. Its just a way of getting them to the site.

View the source and you will see where it comes from, in this case it's Margo listings from the looks of it. Also it's interesting to note that they are TradeDoubler affiliates so, any links clicked via them wipes out any cookie you have with and of the TD merchants they list. I have no problems with merchants taking part in such scheme, however they should not steal our traffic to do so, any traffic from affiliates must not show this pop-up for the duration of the cookie. Otherwise they are going to just put there own affiliate program in a coffin as no one will link to them.

I had someone from jsearch try and sell me some advertising last year. They were "guaranteeing that they'd be bigger than lycos"
in this world of fickle internet I decided not to go with any company who reckoned they could "guarantee" something like that. Looks like a wise decision.

I wont go into details, but had a phone call nearly every day for a couple of weeks trying to get Figleaves to sign up - to say I was pi**ed off would be an understatement.

What really got me going was the sales people didn't understand basic marketing jargon, and had to put me onto their MD!

Only if the visitor clicks the links... also it was just the Arndale one I looked at and not the T4Biz one.

As I have said already I have no problem with this type of program just that if it's our traffic then it should stay that way, we should not expect to see competing pop-ups on our traffic, what they do with there own is up to them. Any day soon the penny will drop and the merchants will work this out. The pop-up people won't be falling over themselves to fix the issue, as they will lose out on our traffic that they are getting for free.

We said we would work with yourselves to ensure your leads were not overwritten by us and that our popunder would not appear if you had generated the link to the site.

WE DID THIS!

Traffic4Biz is a company with integrity and ethics who want to work with affiliates not against them!

Whenever one of the sites serving our popunder tells us they are dealing with you eg Furniture123.co.uk we make sure that we don't serve the popunder if you fed them the lead.

Please help us to stop those who copy our idea but without the integrity to operate ethically

Just a final thought!

We should point out that Traffic4Biz Limited is NOTHING to do with theArndale.com, Jsearch, Jini our any of that ilk!

Our reputation is built on quality, value & service and we have an enviable reputation for ethically selling & supplying our products!

....and they still have not provided the list of merchants that has been requested at least twice.

They have indicated they are happy to work with us but me thinks that it might be more the case that they are fearful of incurring the wrath of an upset merchant such as a Dixons.

I guess maybe the best thing to do then is to simply email the affiliate manager of every merchant where their pop-ups are discovered of our own accord. I humbly suggest that if everytime an affiliate finds one of their pop-ups on a site and then emails the company concerned, politely informing them that affiliates and shopping directories across the UK will give the red card to any merchant carrying this pop-up, the situation will quickly sort itself out.

And to assist in achieving this end, anytime anyone finds an Arndale pop-up, that they mention it in this esteemed forum, and then we call all send an email ...for the sake of a few minutes effort it will go a long way towards defending our positions!
