What do I need to be able to do this...

I am a newbie to this but cant find the answer any where because I dont really know what I am looking for.

I want to make a site like Toys and online toy shops in the UK, welcome to etoys.co.uk but with different products but the shops I want to use to get the products from are on different affiliate networks, is it possible to import the products in some way from the different shops on the aff networks into one shop like website?

And how can I import products from just one network?

Sorry if this isn't explained very well

Thumbs up Re: What do I need to be able to do this...

    That's a big question

First, this is a wordpress based site so get familiar with wordpress, it's brilliant. Next, the shop is simply feed based with upfront info to make it interesting. So, you need to understand php or asp and you need to write the code to get visitors buying: I guess you can't do that, so you need a good databased system. I assume (never assume), you know how to build and host a website. So, you need a way to display the feeds. I have looked at others but, I do favour http://www.pricetapestry.com/ for it's ease of use and support.

Have a look at one of my sites which is similar to etoys and utilises both wordpress and price tapestry -

The affiliate lifestyle is not easy and the hours are long but, it is enjoyable so keep trying and you will succeed.

Whilst the blog section is certainly wordpress, the front part of the site is NOT. I don't know what script Kieron is using for that site, but suspect it may be AWin's Shop Window.

With ShopWindow you can only use merchants on Affiliate Window (AWin) as it accesses their api.

To use merchants on different networks you will need to use their datafeeds. Best way (to my mind) is to import them into a database. There are a few scripts around that can do all the work for you. Which script really depends upon what final result you want.

Like ThriftySpider, I too use, and can certainly recommend, Price Tapestry.

The site uses the Shop Window V3 toolset for the products. The script if available for free from AWin but affiliates must make 75 commission within the first 3 months, 65 therefafter.

    The blog is wordpress.

The front page calls the latest 2 blog posts which clearly will help from a SEO point of view.

Re: What do I need to be able to do this...

So will I just need the feeds from the affiliate networks going into price tapestry and then wordpress or do I to make a database of some sort with the feeds then put that into price tapestry?

What are the scripts that import the feeds into a database? I dont think i'll find much googling "feed importers" lol

Re: What do I need to be able to do this...

If you want to go the Wordpress/price tapestry way then you have two separate parts to the site. WordPress will be the front end and Price Tapestry the back end.

You must create a database on your domain. Then install price tapestry which will set up the database. You then upload the feeds, "register" them and click the save and import. You can then set up a cron job to automatically update the feeds. I do mine every night.

You can then setup wordpress on the front end of your site. When you write posts you can include a snippet of php to call products from your database.

Another thing I forgot, with price tapestry is it possible to modify the page where the product is displayed? Making it more unique?

I have added content to search pages before now, but not to product pages, so that would be a question for David, the author. His forum for price tapestry is here: Price Tapestry | Price Tapestry
