I use a new window as at least it keeps my affiliate site open on their computer.
I am quite new to the Affiliate side of things and I'm currently building my first site.It maybe a fairly obvious question but I just wanted peoples thoughts on:
When you are adding a link/banner of some description to your content/site do you set the landing page to open in a new window or the same window? For now, I have set them all up in a new window as that's a personal preference of mine as a customer. Both (and more I guess if you want to get techinical ) options are there and I wondered if it had much impact on sales etc and what people on here do as a general rule?
Any comments welcome!
I give all my outbound affiliate links the rel="nofollow" attribute as well. So google dosent wander off from your site when crawling
I should add that I did actually experiment with opening all links in the same window - I found it annoying after a while. No scientific analysis but it definitely didn't increase sales.
Yep, I think I am going to carry on doing that, makes sense :tup
I think that if you open a page in your domain than it should be on the same windows, external links should open in new window.
Definantly open in new windows, all your doing if you dont is allowing someone to leave your site. Keep your site live and theres more chance more of your content will be viewed and as such more sales generated.
Yup, I don't think there is ever a reason from an affiliate perspective why you wouldn't want to open a link in a new window, and with most modern browsers now opening a new tab I find a new window actually help navigation.
Yup - new window everytime.

New window would be fine but is that impact on bounce rate ratio?
Most of the time opening a new window is the better option.
This way they stay on your site and have a chance to click on another product/ad.
If your site offers multiple choices i.e. voucher code site then I would look at opening in a new window because the user may still like to view other options.
Research will show that there is no correlation between opening in the existing tab or a new one whether it increases the activity on your site by having the page open. However, if there is a need for the visitor to come back to your site without having to press the back button you would have reduced the additional click, page load, etc.
Also at times the site to be open maybe broken, not the right page, etc and a visitor needs to come back to your site. It would be practical to have immediate access.
The only benefit of letting links open in the same tab may be preventing leaks. Equally, most visitors probably already have multiple tabs open.
The fact that this thread was even created shows admirable attention to detail.
I use open in a new window. You want them to keep flowing on your site.
