    Product categories

I know this subject has been mentioned many times before, but please AW, can you do something about the number of products that have totally incorrect categories.

I've just used the create a feed system to obtain a feed of products in the "bathroom scales" category.

There were 530 items in the feed.

The following merchants have items incorrectly categorised as bathroom scales:
    UK flooring direct (221 products)
    House of Fraser (80)
    John Lewis (13)
    Robert Dyas (9)
    Wilkinson Plus (2)

So out of the 530 items in my feed, less than 40% of them are in the right category.

    Best regards,

    Hi Jeff,

Just to let you know that UK Flooring Direct have now reviewed the feed and no products should be showing in the bathroom scales category.

I hope you have a good weekend.

    Best regards,
    Natalie

    Re: Product categories

The feeds from many companies are a right mess with regard to category product placement. I now run a filtering file (s) with many queries that renames product categories thereby moving the products into new categories should I see the need for it. It is the only way to eventually get an ordered site if you ask me. This is time consuming though initially as I have to work out the best type of query to run. It also needs constant updating because of new products appearing that don't fit the existing query filters.

You can understand some products being in the wrong category but there are some company feeds that have total disregard for category placement. I run a jewellery site and some merchants shove all their products into the 'men's jewellery' category for instance. You can imagine the mess it makes of such a site.

    Re: Product categories

This feed category issue comes up again and again. It's always going to be difficult to convince a network and merchant to sort all the incorrect categorisation issues out, so if you can I would think about how you can use code to sort out the biggest problems for your own site.
