    Domain name choosing help!

Sorry for another newbie post but im looking for some advice in picking a domain name.

Ive picked my niche, its a two word key word. word1word2 and word1word2s (plural) .co.uk and .com are taken. However they dont really rank in searches and a couple arent even live sites.

What should i do? Is it better to go for another domain type, like org.uk etc or should i go for a 3 word domain. For example, add a word like cheap/ luxury/ best or word1word2 shop etc etc.

Isnt the content of the site more important to rankings rather than the domain? Is it a bad way to go?

Id love to hear some pro's thoughts on this!

    Thanks,

    L

If your not 'building a brand' and your only choosing the domain for advantages in ranking in the serps, then just go for a three word domain. Fine.

I wouldn't choose the words 'cheap', 'sale', best, online etc though as they are diluting the other keywords in your nich with an over diluted one. Is there anyway you can use three word that are within your niche?

A three word domain may be worth it if these three word phrases are being searched for on Google. Check using the Google AdWords Keywords Tool as listed at:

I personally quite like best- and cheap- domain names. I would also advise trying to buy a domain in a good extension for your primary site, i.e. .co.uk or .com.

So, my advice, buy a three word domain in a good extension and build the site on it. If you want to, buy the exact match two word domain in the lesser .org.uk extension too if you feel it's worth it, and use it to build a secondary site which redirects into your main one. I still find exact match search keyphrase domains useful, particularly to rank on Bing and Yahoo.

I would choose the 2 word org.uk over a 3 word co.uk or .com domain as you will rank higher in google for those 2 words.

If you go for the three word option, you might find this list of prefixes and suffixes for domain names useful.
